A Fine Quality18th Century Clothes Press

Description:

The two doors above two short, and one long drawer below fitted with Rococco brass handles. The whole resting on bracket feet. Superb original surface and colour throughout . The sides also veneered in a single sheet of figured Cuban mahogany.

Provenance:

A design for a very similar press can be found in Chippendales Director plate no;CXXIX.Dimensions are the same as the cabinet illustrated.
Christopher Gilberts Life and Works of Thomas Chippendale also shows a photograph of a matching clothes press(fig243)supplied by Chippendale to Aske hall in 1763.One of a pair at a cost of £10 each!
