A mid-19th century ormolu brass-mounted Cabriole leg walnut and kingwood Bonheur de Jour Attributable to the English cabinet- maker Gillows of Lancaster and London. This desk in the French taste comprising a removable superstructure housing seven drawers including central secret one. All brass-mounted and finished with a retaining gallery .The writing surface features a Goncalo Alves cross- grain edge moulding and broad Kingwood banding. A central pullout / pull-out writing slide further extends the working area. The desk features an ingenious central locking mechanism operated from the central drawer.
